Here, you are looking at the JDM STI Performance Axle Back Exhaust for the 2022-2023 WRX.
This All-stainless steel muffler is finished off with a buff finish. It is a set of 2 left and right with dual slash-cut tailpipes (φ95 x 2 on one side).
The muffler body adopts a safe and secure structure that does not affect the power unit or exhaust system through STI's unique tuning, and has achieved a weight reduction of about 1.8 kg compared to the standard car. In addition, STI has carefully tuned the sound of the exhaust sound to achieve a high-quality and comfortable sound suitable for the WRX S4.
If you ever get a chance to find JDM STI performance parts, I highly encourage you to invest in them. This performance muffler is different compared to the USDM STI version in that it is circular in appearance. The JDM version reduces weight by 5 lbs on each muffler, I was surprised seeing how heavy the stock ones are. STI states the JDM version lowers airflow back pressure by 16% and increases acceleration by 2%. STI specifically designed these mufflers for the FA series engine.
The 2% is noticeable in how responsive the VB becomes with these mufflers. It is a different driving experience compared to stock. It is a must have if you are investing in the VB for a JDM look.
The sounds is great. It is not overwhelming and I am able to hear different exhaust notes as I shift throughout all the gears. No drone as I am cruising on the freeway, so life is good.
There is a warning from STI not to pair this with the OEM Exhaust finishers, however after driving around I have had no issues. It was a tight fit with the exhaust tips being 3 1/2 inches. However the OEM Exhaust Finishers can handle up to 4 inches. It did come out flush, which gives it a nice appearance. And it has held up on two long drives.
This axle back can be paired up with three Y pipe/mid pipe combos that I have personally experienced.
1. ETS. They state on their website how their pipes were specifically designed to fit the STI Performance Exhaust (USDM). There is no difference in the flanges and pairs right up!
2. Remark. Remark writes how you can use their pipes with a stock muffler option.
Of course there are others, but these are the ones I found to pair right up with no issue if you are looking to get more out of these mufflers.
The drawback is definitely the price, but like I said, this is an investment for those that are after genuine JDM STI parts. You won’t be disappointed! Thank you Subimods!
