HKS COMPLETE ENGINE - POWERED BY HKS

This block is manufactured with all technologies gained through Gr. A, Drag race, D1 GP, and TSUKUBA Time Attack motorsport racing history of HKS more than 40 years. HKS has been making an effort to build the best racing engine to win various races and improve both engine power and durability.

Making the best engine requires good engineers and facilities. These engines are manufactured at the same facilities and by the same engineers who worked on racing engines before. In addition, HKS puts all the technologies acquired through past racing experience in these engines. This requires a good understanding of the difference between a real racing car and a street-tuning car. Experience the true HKS racing technologies with the HKS Short block package.

Utilizing all the technologies gained from manufacturing racing engines through many years, HKS uses a brand new cylinder block and it brings improved reliability as using a pre-owned cylinder block usually may have invisible micro damages. This makes accurate engine building very difficult. This is the reason that defines HKS's philosophy for selecting the new cylinder block to build a completely accurate engine.

Further, careful deburring and chamfering bring improvement of accuracy, also deburring other related parts that have done in consideration with the assembling of the head or auxiliary equipment. As a result, this improves the working efficiency. It is necessary to remove metal powders completely. To do so, HKS took 3 levels of cleaning to improve the accuracy and help to prevent engine troubles due to foreign objects. Removing the blind caps before washing. 1. Wash roughly, 2. Clean with steam 3. Finishing. Boring with consideration for distortion caused by dummy head and metal and uses head bolt and gasket designated parts. All are done to build the most accurate engine Honing and cross-hatching have been done based on the experience of manufacturing racing engines in the past.

Clearance is set to a suitable distance at each part depending on the assumed engine output. Conrods and pistons selected from the cylinder are installed with maintaining the balance. The tightening torque, angle, and high-end performance are controlled by using high-precision measuring tools. HKS works under regulated ideal environment for engine assembly.

Longevity concerns made HKS determined to understand the weaknesses of the FA20. After many blown-up engines, HKS progressively made improvements made thereafter when challenging the D1 Grand prix, circuit time attacks, WTAC, etc.

In order to achieve good results, HKS had to eliminate the weaknesses and develop and release more durable engine parts that can handle higher power. That is how the FA20 2.1L Stroker Kit was developed and made currently available, followed by the release of the complete engine.

We can say that this was realized because we understood the weakness very well and that this is the strength of the product. For your reference, FA25 Racing Engine of TRB-03 uses the same crankshafts and connecting rods that you can buy, except for pistons, and it has achieved 1000ps/110kg.

Since the Cylinder block of the FA20 from the factory has an open deck structure it is not considered as a durable engine. Many engineers are saying that there will be cracks on the block at around 500ps under long-term abuse. In order to make the block more durable, HKS developed a closed deck structure. However, even with the closed deck structure, they found that the engine head gasket became the primary fail point.

So, HKS added improvements to the cylinder water jacket. However, with this improvement, the block will be able to handle a significant increase in power, good for about 850ps before seeing detrimental failures up towards the 900ps range.
