I recently installed my DM-2 shifter and the box on my 24 WRX. I can confirm that the box does cut back on the outside noise. It's not perfect. You will hear some transmission noise. But that's why we have loud stereo systems! I did drive around without the box and it's much louder. The box is worth purchasing to cut back on noise. Plus it protects the shifter assembly. Installation was straight forward. There is a hole for your OEM cable to pass through. It's a tight fit! To install easier, I recommend slacking out the cable a bit. After that, take your time and work your cable through the box. It will fit. I also loosened up a couple bolts to let the box wiggle a little bit. If you pair this box with the shifter, make sure you install the box first. If you install the shifter first, you will need to remove it so the box can be installed. Removing the DM-2 shifter is way easier than the OEM setup though. Passing the shift rod through the box isn't too difficult. I did find it easier to pass it through the box from the inside of the car first. Then I installed the eyebolt to the transmission while under the car. Overall, totally worth purchasing with the DM-2.
