First of all, yes I would recommend this product. I'm in love with the clever design of the air filter and housing. I've never seen anything quite like it and a ten SECONDS filter change (so long as you have a spare filter), versus the fifteen MINUTES of wrestling with the sloppy stock box that always results in at least one bloody knuckle, is a god send. The carbon fiber and epoxy coating is actually very high quality as is the hardware they send with it. The whole set up weighs less than half of what the stock air box on its own did. Installation wasn't bad with the exception of two issues: Be very careful not to drop the screws used for mounting studs on the radiator housing, they will fall into the darkest, tightest place in the engine bay and are (for some reason) non-magnetic. So use tape, glue 'em to your finger, whatever you have to do to keep from dropping them. AND two: the rear pre-drilled mounting hole on the engine cover doesn't line up with the mounting bracket Cobb supplies, at all. Don't try to force it or you might crack either the carbon fiber, or worse, the plastic intake manifold. I used a small rubber bumper insert for support and it works fine. The Accessport install and re-flashing was simple enough, the hardest part was scrolling through and finding the one map I needed out of the 30+ preinstalled maps. I would recommend the 91 octane map instead of the 93 unless you're REALLY sure of the gas your getting or it WILL start knocking, cutting back the D.A.M. and dropping fuel pressure. I've put almost 1000 miles on it so far, and really just want to go drive it some more.
Bryan,
We appreciate the extensive positive review!
Regards,
The quality of the carbon fiber and epoxy coat are excellent, less than half the weight of the stock components and sturdy enough for daily use. The silicon couplers are well made and fit nice and snug, no worries about air leaks. I'm in love with the clever filter/housing design, I've never seen anything quite like it and it works perfectly (ten second filter changes! Thank you Cobb!) And the Accessport was easy relativity easy to flash, though navigating through the 30+ maps preinstalled on it made me go a bit cross eyed.
The only real issues I had were thus:
Be careful when installing the mounting studs on the radiator housing, the screws they send are NOT magnetic and you WILL drop them into the depths of the engine bay if you're not careful.
The rear pre-drilled hole on the carbon fiber engine cover doesn't line up with the mounting bracket at all, don't try to force it as you'll end up either cracking the engine cover or plastic intake manifold (I used a rubber insert for support, works fine.)
Bryan,
We appreciate the extensive positive review! COBB has really outdone themselves with the Stage 1+ Power Package with Redline Carbon Fiber Intake and Carbon Engine Cover! The look and design of this kit is amazing and truly provides performance and style to your WRX! Quick filter changes with this kit is also a fantastic feature! When installing non-magnetic screws or bolts a small amount of grease can help hold the screw in place.
