theHood Scoop Upgrades for the 2015-2021 WRX

There is no single best hood scoop for the 2015-2021 WRX. A full replacement is the OLM A1 at $369.00, currently unavailable, or the Hyperflow at $371.00 if you can live with a fitment conflict between the STI wording and the WRX-only year list. A duct or a tape-on accent changes the look without replacing the factory scoop. The Verus block-off at $89.95 does the opposite: it closes the opening.

What the Scoop Is Doing

The hood scoop on a 2015-2021 WRX is the inlet for the top-mount intercooler. Air comes in over the hood, crosses the core, and the charge leaving the turbo stays cooler than it would in a closed engine bay. A bigger or smoother scoop is a bet that more of that air actually reaches the core. A block-off is the opposite bet: close the hole, drop the lift that an open scoop can make, and let the cooling stack breathe from the front instead.

Those are not the same part wearing two prices. A full replacement unbolts the factory scoop and puts another shell in its place. A duct fills or reshapes the opening that is already there. An accent is a carbon piece stuck to the scoop you already have. A block-off panel seals it. Buying the accent because it was the cheapest carbon piece will not move more air onto the intercooler, and buying the block-off because it was $89.95 will not give the car a taller scoop.

Nothing here is ranked. The OLM shell cannot be ordered today. The Hyperflow can, and its WRX years and STI wording do not agree.

Five Different Jobs

Part Price Job Years
OLM A1 $369.00 Full replacement 2015-2021 WRX and STI
Hyperflow $371.00 Full replacement WRX years vs STI text
Rexpeed duct $250.00 Scoop duct 2015-2021 WRX and STI
V1 accent $241.99 Stick-on accent Name stops at 2020
Verus block-off $89.95 Closes the scoop 2015-2021 WRX and STI

Hyperflow’s regular price is $464.00. Rexpeed’s regular price is $277.78. The accent’s regular price is $345.70. Verus’s regular price is $98.95. OLM’s $369.00 is the price on a scoop that is currently unavailable, so the similar dollar figure on the Hyperflow is the one you can actually check out.

OLM A1 Replacement

OLM A1 Aggressive Carbon Fiber Replacement Hood Scoop 2015-2021 WRX / STI - OLMA.70101.1 - Subimods.com

OLM A1 Carbon Hood Scoop

$369.00. Part OLMA.70101.1. Currently unavailable.

The A1 is a full replacement for the 2015-2021 WRX and the 2015-2021 STI. It comes off as a direct-fit shell in UV-protected carbon fiber, shaped to sit on the factory body lines rather than as a bolted-on pod that misses the hood’s edges. The job it is built for is airflow to the top-mount intercooler: more fresh air onto the core, less heat soak when the car is in boost for a long pull or a session.

That is the functional case for spending scoop money at all. A taller opening does not add a tune, and it does not replace an intercooler that is already heat-soaked. It feeds the core you already have. If the plan is a front-mount intercooler, this opening stops being the inlet and a block-off becomes the part that matches the new layout. Order the A1 when it is back if the car is staying top-mount and you want the shell that lists both the WRX and the STI without a year-tag conflict.

Until it is available, $369.00 is not a part you can put on the car this week. The Hyperflow is a different shell at $371.00, and the next section is where its fitment splits.

Hyperflow Scoop

Extreme Dimensions Hyperflow Hood Scoop

$371.00. Regular price $464.00. Part 117377.

The Hyperflow is the other one-piece carbon replacement, in gloss 2x2 twill with UV protectant in the clear. It is sold as a direct-fit shell, with aluminum mesh where that opening needs a screen so debris does not go straight at the core. It is up to 70 percent lighter than the factory scoop. That 70 percent is the scoop, not the whole front of the car. Less mass on the hood is still the right direction. It is not a handling package by itself.

Warning

The Hyperflow name includes the STI. The years on the part are 2015 through 2021 WRX only. STI fitment is not settled.

A 2015 through 2021 WRX matches the years on the part. An STI is named in the product text and is not in those years. If the car is an STI, confirm the shell against the hood before it is mounted. The price is $371.00. Fitment is what decides whether the shell is the right one.

Duct and Accent

Rexpeed CS-Style Hood Scoop Duct

$250.00. Regular price $277.78. Part G61.

The Rexpeed piece is a hood scoop duct for the 2015-2021 WRX and STI, in 2x2 carbon with a clear coat. It is not a full replacement of the factory scoop. The factory opening stays. This part reshapes what you see in that opening and how air is directed inside it. Buy it when the scoop shell is staying and the carbon you want is the duct, not a new outer skin. At $250.00 it is the middle price between a tape-on accent and a full shell.

Molded Innovations V1 Style Carbon Fiber Hood Scoop Accent 2015-2020 WRX / 2015-2020 STI - MI-CF-065 - Subimods.com

Molded Innovations V1 Hood Scoop Accent

$241.99. Regular price $345.70. Part MI-CF-065.

The V1 accent sticks to the scoop with the 3M tape in the box. It does not unbolt the factory scoop, and it does not become the inlet. The product name is 2015-2020 WRX and 2015-2020 STI. Another fit line covers 2015 and newer WRX and STI. The name is the range that sells: 2015 through 2020. A 2021 car is outside that name.

Clear-coated carbon still needs the usual care in the sun. The accent is a finish piece. If the intercooler is the reason you opened this subject, go back to the OLM or settle the Hyperflow fitment. The accent will not feed the core.

Verus Block-Off

Verus Engineering Hood Scoop Block - Off Kit 2015 - 2021 WRX / 2015 - 2021 STI - A0239A - Subimods.com

Verus Hood Scoop Block-Off

$89.95. Regular price $98.95. Part A0239A.

The Verus kit closes the hood scoop on a 2015-2021 WRX or STI. The panel is 1.6 mm 5052 aluminum, CNC laser cut and bent, black powder coat, no cutting and no drilling. The reason to close the hole is under-hood pressure. An open scoop can feed the top-mount core, and it can also pressurize the bay in a way that adds lift and fights airflow through the radiator and the intercooler stack. Blocking it is the aerodynamic choice, and it is the choice after a front-mount intercooler has already moved the core out of the scoop’s path.

It is the wrong part if the car still uses the factory top-mount and you wanted more air on that core. Sealing the scoop and leaving the top-mount in place takes away the inlet that core was using. Pair the block-off with a front-mount, or leave the scoop open and upgrade the shell. The two jobs do not combine.

Pro Tip

Match the scoop to the intercooler you actually have. Top-mount keeps an open scoop. Front-mount is the layout that can use the block-off.

How to Choose

  1. Replace the shell on a WRX or STI. OLM A1 at $369.00 lists both. It is currently unavailable.
  2. Replace the shell on a WRX now. Hyperflow at $371.00 has WRX years attached. STI fitment is not settled.
  3. Keep the factory scoop. Rexpeed duct at $250.00, or the V1 accent at $241.99 for 2015-2020.
  4. Close it. Verus at $89.95, with a front-mount or a deliberate choice to give up the top-mount inlet.

Carbon on the hood still wants a clear coat kept up, and a full shell still has to seal to the intercooler the way the factory scoop did. A gap at the core dumps the air you just paid to capture. That seal is the install detail that matters more than the weave.

FAQ

What is the best hood scoop for a 2015-2021 WRX?

No ranking picks one. A full replacement is the OLM A1 or the Hyperflow. A duct, an accent, and a block-off are different jobs at $250.00, $241.99, and $89.95.

Does the Hyperflow fit a 2015-2021 STI?

The text is written for that STI, and the years attached to the part are WRX only. STI fitment is not settled. The OLM A1 does list both the WRX and the STI, and it is currently unavailable.

Will a scoop accent cool the intercooler?

No. The V1 accent is tape-on trim for 2015-2020. Air to the top-mount core is the job of a replacement scoop, not an accent.

Should I block the scoop off?

Yes if the inlet is no longer the top of the engine, as with a front-mount. No if the factory top-mount still depends on that opening. The Verus panel is $89.95 and does not cut the hood.
