I installed the Perrin Gurney Flap on my 2011 Subaru WRX Hatchback and overall I’m very happy with the quality, fit, and final appearance. The flap itself is well-made, feels solid, and adds a subtle but purposeful look to the rear of the car without being over the top. Once installed, it sits exactly as expected and feels secure at speed.
Most of the installation instructions were accurate and easy to follow, but there are a couple of important omissions worth noting. The instructions list an incorrect drill bit size for the RivNut installation—the correct size should be 1/4”. Additionally, the instructions do not specify a maximum torque rating for installing the RivNuts. This is critical, as the aluminum RivNuts are fairly soft and it’s very easy to over-torque them and pull or strip the threads if you’re not careful. Take your time during this step and use a conservative torque approach. Aside from these issues, the installation was straightforward and the end result is well worth it.
