The IAG Spec Exedy Triple Disc Clutch is the result of a collaborative partnership between IAG Performance and Exedy, the undisputed global leader in high-performance and racing clutch technology. This clutch was specifically engineered for high-horsepower 2004–2021 Subaru STI models equipped with the OEM 6-speed manual transmission (24-spline input shaft). While still streetable, this clutch is capable of handling an impressive 923 ft-lbs of torque, making it an excellent choice for aggressive street driving, track use, and drag racing. This rating exceeds the standard Exedy FM023SB triple disc clutch by more than 150 ft-lbs, offering a substantial increase in holding capacity for heavily modified builds.
The IAG Spec Exedy Triple Disc Clutch addresses this limitation through a three-disc design that dramatically increases overall grip and torque capacity. By distributing load and heat across three clutch discs, this system improves power transfer efficiency while minimizing the risk of slip. The increased surface area also helps prevent excessive heat buildup, reducing clutch fade and maintaining consistent performance under demanding conditions. As with most multi-disc clutches, some rattling noise may be present when the clutch is depressed or when the vehicle is in neutral.
This clutch kit utilizes cerametallic clutch discs, which are far more resistant to heat than traditional organic materials. While organic discs are suitable for light performance use, they can overheat under sustained high-load conditions. Cerametallic discs are designed to withstand extreme temperatures generated during repeated engagement and disengagement, making them ideal for high-performance driving and racing applications.
A key advantage of the IAG Spec Exedy Triple Disc Clutch is its compatibility with the OEM Subaru STI pull-type clutch system. Unlike many multi-disc clutch setups that require conversion to a push-style slave cylinder, this clutch retains the factory pull-type throwout bearing and slave cylinder. This simplifies installation and maintains OEM-style operation. Additionally, the IAG clutch kit includes both the throwout bearing and pilot bearing, components that are not included with the standard Exedy FM023SB clutch.
