HKS Type-R Front Mount Intercooler 2008-2014 STI

HKS intercoolers are designed to improve efficiency and increase power in turbocharged applications by rapidly reducing the heat of the compressed intake air before it enters the engine. Using a specialized tube-and-fin core design, the intercooler functions as a highly effective heat exchanger, dissipating heat from the intake charge without sacrificing boost pressure or throttle response.

Intercooler performance depends on factors such as core frontal surface area, fin design, and airflow across the core. To improve cooling efficiency, HKS increases the core size over stock to allow greater airflow, while a newly developed cooling fin design enhances heat radiation. The end tanks are engineered to distribute compressed air evenly across the entire core, maximizing temperature reduction. Lower intake air temperatures increase air density, expanding the range for fueling and ignition adjustments and allowing the engine to produce more power and torque safely.

Features:

• HKS used R type core for larger size + low-pressure loss for better performance than the stock intercooler.
• The side tank has effective usage of air flow of core bumper open from the intercooler entrance to exit.
• HKS made it a very short piping layout and a large radius of bending to reduce the bad response caused by the front mount layout. So it will have about the same as the stock intercooler boost pressure spooling.
• Stock intercooler in the engine compartment, the core tends to accumulate the heat from the engine and cause knocking for the starting. Putting the intercooler in front help prevent knocking and make it unbreakable tuning.
• Core size (600×255.6×103), Stock (170×525×65)

Cautions for Installation

• You need to modify the bumper and size of the battery to B19L size for installation.
• Can't use the stock recirculation valve. SQV is installable. (The flange is welded into SQV pipe)
• Aftermarket intake is required. HKS recommends pairing this with the Racing Suction Reloaded Intake ( 70020-AF105).
• You don’t need ECU setting for exhaust system tuning, but if you do the performance will get better. With already boost-up vehicles, we recommend the setting with F-CON iS or V Pro for better performance.
• The approximate installation time is 5 to 6 hours
