Oil has 2 major properties in a motor, lubrication and cooling. Under hard driving conditions the OEM oil cooler is not able to keep the temperatures down, the temperatures rapidly increase to the point at which the oil gets so hot that it starts breaking down, making proper lubrication and cooling impossible.

By integrating a built in thermostat, the oil has a chance to get up to proper operating temperature of 175 degrees and stay there with only slight increase in temperature when the car is driven hard.
