Their purpose is to ensure the wheel is perfectly centered on the hub, which helps prevent vibrations, improves ride quality, and reduces stress on suspension components. They are essential when the center bore of the wheel is larger than the vehicle's hub diameter. Without hubcentric rings, wheels can be lug-centric (centered by the lug nuts), which may not provide optimal alignment or balance.
