It works.

If you leave your AP cable attached in your car, eventually you will need to replace it.
So give in, pay the money, and buy a brand-new one. Once the new cable arrives, make sure to put your AP in the glove box and only bring it out when you need it. Stop looking at it every five seconds when you drive. Yes, you know who you are.
