DETAILS
Introducing the Boomba Stage 1 Compact Catch Can Kit for the 22+ WRX! This is designed as a full kit meaning it includes everything necessary to install.
These beautifully machined pieces of billet aluminum are crucial in any direct injected car. They work to collect oil and moisture passing through your vacuum system and to prevent it from entering back into your intake where it would collect on the back of the intake valves and gunk up the inside of your engine, causing carbon build-up. The Boomba Racing Compact Catch Can Kit is meant to be easy to install, and easy to service. With a mounting bracket that makes it quick and easy to remove, draining this catch can is super convenient. This catch can utilizes a two stage outlet to ensure that the oil within the vapor going through the can is trapped.
Details:
The can fits where its supposed to and works, and clearly is built sturdily but i ran into several problems installing. First off the can came in very dusty, no problem but i didnt expect to clean a 250 catch can that was brand new prior to install. The paint on it looks good but the very underside has some spots where its thicker and thinner than the rest of the can, not noticeable when installed and obviously not functionally problematic.
The first of my problems came when splicing the vent hose. in the video for a 2022 the hose is absolutely a different than on my 2024 car. The 2024 has a HARD plastic inner hose and rubber shell (so make sure to bring sharp and sturdy hose cutters) and the barbs that go into this hose do not fit well, even getting them started is a pain and it takes a TON of force to fully seat them if you even can get them in all the way, i guess its better than loose but man is it a job just for that. The last issue i had with the install is that on the VB WRX the outlet port is closest to the intercooler and inlet is farthest away, the can i received was switched. I called boomba and they just told me to switch the caps and the barbed ends to the other side since the can is modular, which i didnt realize until the can was mounted so i had to remove it to fix. Again not a big deal but when buying a kit for my specific car it would have been nice for it to go a little bit smoother. All that said its still a nice kit to work with as you dont have to disassemble part of the front end to access the hose fittings themselves.
