DETAILS
This intake system features a 5” tall conical air filter with three layers of oil-free synthetic media and requires no oil during maintenance to provide maximum convenience. Its progressive layering provides great filtration efficiency and dust holding capacity. This media is best suited for street and light off-road use. Pro DRY S filters are easily recharged with aFe's POWER CLEANER.
One Piece 2-3/4" Mandrel-Bent Wrinkle-Black Powder-Coated Aluminum Intake Tube directs unrestricted airflow from the massive filter to the throttle body for more horsepower and torque. aFe developed this sturdy 18 gauge steel wrinkle-black powder-coated heat shield to mount onto the factory airbox to provide a hassle-free installation utilizing factory mounting locations. Premium hardware and clamps are used to securely mount the high flow air filter and the intake tube.

I've had my Takeda intake for two months now in my 2014 Outback, and have been thoroughly pleased with the improved throttle response and increased intake noise it provides. Drifting in the mud at my job's parking lot is a lot more fun because of it. I've even gotten an extra 1 mpg of economy out of normal highway driving with it. The power/torque gains it promises (11hp, 13ft/lbs) aren't easily noticeable by any means, but it does make the engine feel more lively and eager. A tune from someone experienced like Xtreme Racing Tuning would be able to take better advantage of the additional airflow provided by the large conical air filter. I have put a pre-filter (Filterwears F102R) over it to help protect it from larger debris and water, which fits very nicely. Installing the intake took only an hour, but I did have to modify the bracket at the bottom of the metal filter box in order to fit it onto the stock front half of the box, which was an unexpected hassle, and the Takeda badge on top of it ended up coming off multiple times from weak adhesive, and by the time I opened the hood again to take a video, it had disappeared completely. Hardly an issue for the sake of build quality, which was otherwise really nice. All the supplied hardware (besides the intake box) was precisely manufactured and went together without a hitch, and I only had to use a screwdriver, a few sockets, and some wrenches. The attached video shows cold starts, idling, and revs with the stock intake equipped with a K&N filter in early fall (65F) and the Takeda intake in the winter (45F), both with a Nameless Performance 5" muffler on the rear. (Revving timestamps are 0:39/0:56 and 1:51/2:08 respectively.)
