The AEM 21-478WR Performance Cold Air Intake System produces horsepower and torque gains by replacing your vehicle's restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing. This air intake system was designed, tuned and dyno-tested to fit specific Subaru WRX, WRX STI, Impreza WRX and Impreza WRX STI models. Air enters the system through an oversized AEM Dryflow synthetic washable air filter for outstanding air flow, filtration and performance. The air filter is located in the original air box space and is protected by a heat shield which is designed to reduce intake air temperature and increase horsepower. The intake tubing is constructed from mandrel-bent aluminum featuring a durable textured red powder coated finish. This air intake system was developed to accommodate the engine's factory emissions control devices including the mass air flow sensor. The cylinder shaped AEM Dryflow air filter is made from an oil-free, synthetic filter media that can be used for up to 100,000 miles before cleaning is needed (depending on driving conditions). The air intake system is easy to install with commonly available tools and it is backed by AEM's Lifetime Limited Warranty. Some AEM air intakes are not legal for sale or use in California and other states adopting California emission standards while others are 50 state legal. View the 21-478WR vehicle applications to determine the legal status for each vehicle.
It’s a great intake brings in outside cool air but the only problem is it is so close to the ground inside the fender well that if you’re driving and it starts raining and you go through a puddle then it is very likely that you’re going to suck up a engine destroying amount of water so if you only plan on driving in completely dry weather or you live in Arizona then I recommend it but if you live in a place where it’s going to snow and rain well I don’t recommend it or any intake that is placed in a spot where it is easily exposed to water or slushy snow cause you will loose your motor just like I did driving down the highway when it started raining unexpectedly
Frankie,
We appreciate the 5 Star Review! The AEM Cold Air Intake not only looks phenomenal but also adds amazing performance! We appreciate the information as we have not heard any complaints about water issues!
Regards,
This is a great intake for stock or mildly modified cars. If you if ever were to get a fmic then you'll either have to remove or cut your cover thing that comes with the intake. Then you'll have to adjust your intake to fit snug. If you remove the wheel splash guard or under panel then your intake WILL SUCK UP WATER if it rains hard or from puddles.
Alejandro,
We appreciate your positive review of the AEM Cold Air Intake! As you said this is a great intake for stock or mildly modified WRX/STI's! It is absolutely not recommended to remove your wheel splash guard and is not necessary for installation!
