1950
Founded with Purpose
Born on July 5, 1950, when wartime leaders from the Infantry Association and Field Artillery Association united to give America’s Army one powerful voice. The first president was Gen. Wade H. Haislip, with President Harry S. Truman as honorary president.
1960
Establishing the Marshall Medal
AUSA’s highest honor, the George Catlett Marshall Medal, was established to recognize selfless service to the United States. Past recipients include Colin Powell, George H.W. Bush, and Madeleine Albright.
1999
Family Readiness Directorate Launched
AUSA formalized its commitment to military families by establishing the Family Readiness Directorate, providing tools, resources, and connections to support Army families through every challenge.
2017 – Present
Tripling Membership & Growing Impact
AUSA tripled its membership, expanded to 122 chapters worldwide, and now contributes over $5 million annually to scholarships, awards, and Soldier & family programs.
